 A balloon safari is an excursion unlike any other. Drift in silence above the Serengeti plains, dip down to visit the hippo pools of the Grumeti River and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the wildlife theatre as it is enacted below you. After a cup of tea around 5:30 am, you will be driven to the balloon take-off point, where a team inflates the vast rainbow-coloured balloon.

Take a two to three-hour canoe safari on Lake Momella inside Arusha National Park. You can expect to see giraffes, buffalo, warthogs and zebras and enjoy uninterrupted views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. 

The only national park on Zanzibar, this forest is known for the endangered Zanzibar red colobus. Enjoy a walk on the nature trail through the forest which is also home to many other animal species including duiker and the Zanzibar servaline genet.

Stone Town is the heart of the historical Zanzibar with its old buildings and narrow streets dating back to the Slave Trade era hence a heritage protected site. The tour includes visit to the Darajani town market, the former slave market, slave caves and cells, Forodhani gardens, the house of wonders, Sultan palace and the Old Portuguese Fort.

Know and understand the history and culture of Tanzania at The National Museum. Here you will see artifacts depicting Tanzanian traditions that date back to the slave trade era and into the post-colonial period.

Garm Chashma Hot Spring is 42km from Khorog, on the way to Ishkashim. The spring is least several thousand years old and by now exists as a huge travertine mound cascading down to the river. The curved cascades are bright white, yellow and brown and range from 1,5 km long, 35-45 meters wide and from 7 to 35 meters high. The water comes out of the earth in the form of micro geysers from 10 cm to 1,5 meters high. 

Karakul Lake was formerly known as the Lake Victoria, named after Queen Victoria by the British cartographers/ military geographer. It was marked as such by most maps of the area until the 1920s when the new Soviet cartographer replaced the British name with the Kyrgyz name Karakul, or Black lake. The lake lies at an elevation of 3,960 m above sea level. It is endorheic (lacking a drainage outlet) and the water is brackish. There is a small village with the same name on the eastern shore of the lake.

The Nyiragongo Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, famous for the lava lakes that have formed in the summit crater. The hike to the summit takes approximately four to six hours and can be difficult in humid conditions, but you are rewarded by sightings of rare birds and animals such as monkeys, bushbucks and chimpanzees, and the summit offers wonderful views of Gisenyi Town.

A 45-minute drive from the hotel, Volcanoes National Park offers volcano trekking and the famous gorilla-trekking tour. 

Referred to as “magic waters,” the Amashuza Hot Springs are a 15-minute drive from the hotel. The minerals in these waters are known to contain medicinal values and a soak is thought to heal muscle disorders and numerous other ailments

This collective of Rwandan creative artists showcases local works in contemporary African arts, crafts, music and dance. In addition to exhibiting paintings, sculptures and mixed media expressions, the center conducts programs, projects and initiatives designed to expand the creative arts in Rwanda.

Experience the daily drama that unfolds in the Kenyan Savannah!

Tsavo National Park consists of a diverse ecosystem where numerous species of wildlife are spotted on any game drive. From the tenacious elephant herds to buffalos and the big cats, a game drive in Tsavo is a must-have experience! Both night and daytime game drives are possible to give guests the opportunity to view both diurnal and nocturnal animals.

A black lava flow of eight kilometres, 1.6 kilometres wide and five meters deep, is the remains of volcanic eruptions. They were subject of tales among local communities who named the flow "shetani," meaning evil in Kiswahili, after it spewed from the earth when it was just 240 years old. Climbing the flow isn’t an easy task as the thick, black soil is composed of uneven chunks of solid magma.

Once climbed, the Roaring Rocks will give you magnificent panoramic views, usually only seen by the eagles and buzzards that fly around these cliffs. Over the plain called Rhino Valley and the Ngulia, the Roaring Rocks, located near the Rhino Sanctuary, has long been an observation point for the protection of black rhinoceros and the fight against poaching. 

“Mzima,” meaning alive in Kiswahili, is a peaceful oasis at the heart of red-dusty Tsavo and this magical place is not to be missed. The pure water of the three Mzima pools filtered by the porous sponge-like soil of the Chyulu and the Shetani lava flow brings life to a unique ecosystem at only 40 kilometres away from the Chyulu Hills. With a daily supply of more than 250 million litres of fresh water, the pool provides an oasis of green.

When the food couldn’t get any better, throw in a view to die for!

Adjacent to the Lodge is our dedicated bush barbeque area, which overlooks the Chyulu Hills and is traditionally lit with safari lanterns. Reached by a winding, lantern-lit pathway from the lodge, it features a stone-built buffet-area, bush bar and a glowing charcoal barbeque. Here, our chefs prepare a lavish 7-course banquet, which is served to individual tables gathered around a blazing fire-pit. At the end of dinner, our guitarist entertains you as drinks are served around the bonfire. A special cultural dancing troup may also be at hand to entertain you.

Take a most beautiful and scenic nature walk up into the valley along the Shigar stream. We recommend an excursion to the Deosai Plateau (literally "place of flowers" in Balti), a unique eco-system over 400 square kilometres at an elevation of 4,000 metres, which features over 100 species of mountain flora and is home to wildlife such as the Snow Leopard, Himalayan Brown Bear, Golden Marmot, Tibetan Wolf, Tibetan Red Fox, Himalayan Ibex, and Ladakh Urial.

Explore the nearby historic villages of Chinpa, Halpapa, and Shigar. Visit some of the most ancient mosques in the area, including the nearby Khilingrong Mosque and the 14th century Amburiq Mosque in Shigar Village, a UNESCO award-winning site. Hike up the famous Shigar Rock, at the top of which sits the ruins of Kari Dong, the first ancient Fort dating back to the 11th century.

Located in the middle of a ‘cold desert’, one of the highest in the world, this warm water lake is stunning with its scenic beauty. Further afield, enjoy fishing and boating at Satpara Lake.

In the event that the collared lions are inaccessible, other lion sightings are reported and the same identifying features such as whisker spots, ear tears and nose spotting recorded.

Thanks to Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s private status it is able to offer night game drives, an activity not available in most national parks and reserves in Kenya. A night game drive offers visitors an opportunity to discover Ol Pejeta Conservancy ‘after hours’. With the help of a filtered spot light, the drives can produce some unusual sightings of nocturnal animals, including aardvark, white-tailed mongoose, caracal cat and even perhaps, bat eared fox.

The first valley in the old Kingdom of Hunza, Mayoon and Hussainabad descends from the north to join the Hunza River at Khizarabad about ten kilometres upriver of Chalt, opposite Nilt and the KKH.  

About 60 kilometres north of Gilgit, Chalt stands as the southernmost settlement of the old Nagar Kingdom. In 1891, the British arrived with a force of 1,000 men, and strengthened Chalt Fort by using it as their base to overthrow Hunza and Nagar in a fierce battle at Nilt. 

Also known as the Ziarat Residence, this grand residence features beautiful lawns, rose gardens, chinar trees and views of the surrounding forests. It is where Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, spent the last months of his life. 

Just 14 kilometres North of Goma, the Nyiragongo Volcano is said to be among the most active volcanoes in the world and is also famous for its active lava lake. A six-hour hike to the mountain’s summit is the best way to experience this unique treasure, and the best reward is spending the whole night on the top of this active volcano.

Gorilla trekking has fast emerged as one of the world’s top bucket list travel activities, and DR Congo happens to be among the few African countries that allows travellers to engage with endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. A face-to-face encounter with the mountain gorillas in Virunga National Park – which is a World Heritage Site – is often described as an awe-inspiring experience. This may be one of the greatest wildlife encounters on Earth owing to the fact that endemic primates like Grauer's gorillas, bonobos and silver-backed mountain gorillas are facing extinction and can only be found in the off-the-beaten-track tracks of DR Congo.

Uganda's largest and third-oldest institution of higher learning, originally established in 1922 as a technical school, the university now encompasses 10 individual colleges.

Known locally as “Kandt House,” this museum celebrates the work of Dr. Richard Kandt, a German physician and explorer who embarked on an exploration of Rwanda in 1897, searching for the source of the Nile River. A rich showcase of Rwanda’s natural treasures, the museum includes artifacts from Dr. Kandt’s expedition and also a ship that was sunk off the shores of Lake Kivu during the German troops’ surrender to the Belgian Army in World War I.

Established in 2007 by 18 women living in Nyamirambo, Kigali, the NWC examines Rwanda’s unfortunate history of violence, inequality and discrimination towards women. Today, the Center’s mission is to provide education and vocational training to disadvantaged women so that they can gain better opportunities for employment.

Located ten minutes from the city centre, the Kigali Genocide Memorial offers guided tours of the exhibits and gardens commemorating the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. Visitors can choose to be guided by one of the staff, many of whom are survivors of the genocide, or purchase the KGM digital guide, which provides an audiovisual tour.

Also known as Changuu Island, lies about 30 minutes from Stone Town. The island was formerly owned by an Arab trader and was meant to be confinement for refractory slaves but no prisoners were ever housed; on the contrary the island became a quarantine station for yellow fever epidemics. It was bought by General Lloyd Mathews and the jail which still stands was built in 1893 and hence the name ‘’PRISON ISLAND’’

Also known as the Woodcarvers Market, the shops line within packed stalls, offering a variety of goods. The prices are negotiable and concession must be reached by smart bargaining. The famous Makonde carvers can be seen at work, pecking with their sharp chisels on the rare black ebony wood.
